BESITOS DE COCO: popular round coconut cookies

Ingredients:

  • 1 big dry coconut
  • 4 Tbsp of liquified butter
  • 8 Tbsp of wheat flower
  • 1/4 Tbsp of vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt
  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 4 egg yolks

Directions:

  • Pre-heat the oven to 350 degrees F
  • Shred the pulp of the coconut. You will need 3 cups.
  • Combine all the ingredients and start mixing into a thick batter
  • Form small balls
  • Place the balls on a baking sheet (grease it beforehand)
  • Bake for about 35 to 40 minutes until golden.

QUESILLO:

Similar to flan, it is made with egg yolks and syrup. Contrary to the name, there is no cheese. Be careful though, outside of Venezuela the same name refers to a cheese dish rather than a dessert.

BIEN ME SABE:

Basically, this dessert is a sponge cake covered in liquor. It is filled with a coconut creme filling, and on top there is meringue. This dessert can be literally translated to " it tastes good to me." It is a very old dessert; it can be traced back to colonial times!
